The best Pokemon Scarlet and Violet mods

The best Pokemon Scarlet and Violet mods

That’s no secret Pokemon Scarlet and Violet which was launched in a technically messy state. Many are happy to look past the flaws in the performance, graphics, and quality of life aspects, however, others have taken it upon themselves to consider aspects of the game that the developers could not or would not improve upon. Although modding is usually associated with PC games, it can be done on your Nintendo Switch. There are limitations, and they may involve some risks, but these mods will definitely make your journey through Paldea more enjoyable. Don’t expect 4K, 60fps enhancement here, but these are the best Pokemon scarlet and Violet mods out there.

How to mod Pokemon Scarlet and Violet

Modding on your Nintendo Switch is not as easy as it is on a PC, but as long as you follow some simple steps, anyone can do it. All you need to do is download the Trinity Mod Loader tool, download the mod(s) you want and add them to the tool, and then apply the mod to your Switch.

Be aware that mods can get you banned from Nintendo, so it is recommended that you play offline while using them. Even then, you do so at your own risk.

Pokemon ‘Primitive’ Randomizer

Wild Samurott in Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet.

One thing people love to do with their Pokemon titles is create challenge runs. Whether it’s a Nuzlocke, or in this case a random run, these simple tweaks can make an old game feel new again. This mod allows you to choose many options to change how the game will play, such as whether Pokémon will have stats similar to those normally found in the wild, whether Pokémon will have random items, whether Spawn Legendary and Paradox Pokémon in the overworld, give your Pokémon random abilities, and tons more.

Project Sky

Although we don’t know why it was named this way, Project Sky is a great mod that gives you complete control over your Pokemon’s stats, moves and evolutions. This includes changing a Pokemon’s base stats, EV, XP growth rate, abilities, type, held items, and more. This is great if you need to start a new game, but want to jump back to the last game levels right away, or make the game a lot easier or harder as a challenge. He will also be adding a trainer editor and randomizer sometime in the future.

Vulcan Custom Shinies

Three shiny Pokemon at a picnic.

Shiny Pokemon hunters are some of the most dedicated trainers out there. Hunting these rare Pokémon can be tough and time-consuming, but it’s well worth it for finishers. Unfortunately, not every Pokemon in the game has a shiny version. The Custom Shinies mod gives you more rare Vulcain to hunt by creating new shiny versions of those left out of this version. So far, the mod has created shiny versions of 67 more Pokemon for you to hunt.

Area Zero Remaster

Area Zero suffers just as much as the rest of Paldea in terms of visuals, but it hurts a little more considering how special it is to be. This Area Zero Remaster can’t make the whole game look better, but it can at least improve this one aspect. Highlights of this mod include adding a day/night cycle, completely new terrain textures, higher resolution, and upscaling textures. The modder is still working on more features, too, like upscaling trees, weathering, custom lighting in caves, and more.

Picnic+

The picnics are a new mechanic Scarlett and Violet and they’re a fun new way to interact with your team, as well as eat some tasty sandwiches for buffs. This simple Picnic+ mod improves every aspect of this mechanic. It will make the buffs you get more powerful, increase your egg basket all the way up to 50, and let you picnic almost anywhere you want.

No Low Poly Pokemon Models

Trainers have one major complaint regarding the graphics. Pokemon themselves are worth putting down when you see them in the open world even for a short time. The No Low Poly Pokémon Models mod does exactly what it claims and it does it so that Pokémon will always load in their highest level of detail no matter how far you are from them. This mod may affect performance if there are many Pokémon on the screen, so consider that before installing.

Faster battles

After dozens of hours, and hundreds of battles, most trainers will get tired of how slow paced fights can be. Games in the past gave options to skip pauses and unnecessary animations, but they didn’t Scarlett and Violet. While the Faster Battles mod can’t cut everything you need out of battles, it can speed up battles a lot. The mod gives you six options for how much you want to reduce delays by speeding up text, with the fastest text boxes being cut almost entirely.

Pokemon Scarlet/Violet Reshade Appearance Enhancer

Finally, for one more graphical upgrade that this game desperately needs, the Pokémon Scarlet/Violet Reshade Appearance enhancer is a subtle, but appreciated, improvement to the game’s appearance. This mod is all about improving lighting with color correction, FX settings, corrected lighting conditions, and more. It won’t make the game look brand new, but it will feel a little closer to how it should be.
